In his disconcerting photographs, Düsseldorf-based artist Andreas Gefeller turns holiday sites on Gran Canaria (an insland off the west coast of Africa) into bleak Utopian backdrops. Although taken in a conventional, analog fashion, the pictures look as if they have been digitally altered, raising questions about the realness of reality and its representations.
Essay by Andreas Gefeller, Christoph Ribbat and Gerhard Gluher.
