Progressive Rock Logos and Albums Photoshop Brushes

This is something I always wanted to do. I’m turning 44 this year and I must admit that I still listen to progressive rock with passion.

And this is precisely what I love about Photoshop. You can turn anything you like into brushes and start writing about something that you normally wouldn’t, in your blog.

Sadly, it was only when I started this brush set that I noticed that except for a couple of bands, no one had a steady logo over time. Even YES had different logos. But there were cases like PREMIATA FORNIERA MARCONI, KING CRIMSON, MOODY BLUES, and even JETHRO TULL, that didn’t even keep the same typeface on two albums. On the other side, groups like ELO, YES, GENESIS, PINK FLOYD and some others, at some point of their history, had very renown logotypes.

There is a great article about rock bands logo design at Intuitive Design’s blog: Top 10 Rock Bands Logos.
You can also download other rock bands logos at and (in vector format).

I’m sure that you will not fully agree with the list. Perhaps you may think that ELO and SUPERTRAMP are not progressive rock bands, and that CAMEL or CURVED AIR should have been on the list. Well, there are many reasons for those inclusions and exclusions, and to be honest it doesn’t matter. This is simply a Photoshop brushes set and not a TOP 10 or BEST OF list. Relax and have fun.

Why Not? Progressive Rock Videos too!

When you are done painting with your brushes, you can watch some progressive rock videos from YouTube. Here’s a list that I gathered. If you would like to recommend a video, leave a message with a link to that video in the comments section below.

» Overture 10538 – Electric Light Orchestra

One of their best songs in my opinion.

» Sylvia – Focus

An awesome live video of Sylvia from Moving Waves album. Great video quality.

» Time – Pink Floyd

This is live at Earls Court, 1994. Great quality vid.

» D’yer Mak’er – Led Zeppelin

Studio version, with a photo presentation. I don’t know if it is their best one, but who can resist the drums at the beginning?

» Thick as a Brick – Jethro Tull

Aren’t they the greatest? I’m a huge fan of Jethro Tull. This live performance video shows Ian Anderson at his best.

» Proclamation – Gentle Giant

Gentle Giant was an unique band, totally different from the rest. Great quality sound and music. Please, don’t skip this video!

» Baba O’reilly – The Who

There is not much info about this vid on YouTube, but the quality is amazing. Keith Moon, my favorite drummer (along with Carl Palmer), is there too! And best of all, the song is Baba O’reilly. Can you ask for more?

» Hoedown – Emerson Lake and Palmer

Emerson is a genius. Period. Palmer, the best. And Lake, well, he has a nice voice. One of my all time favorites progressive groups.

» I know what I like (from your wardrobe) – Genesis

Live performance, Peter Gabriel era.

» Close to the edge – Yes

Live performance from Yessongs.

» Hey Jude – The Beatles

And of course, The Beatles. This isn’t progressive rock, you say? Who cares. It’s the best song in the history of music. And if want something more from the best band in the whole history of music, here’s the Rooftop Concert.
