Big New Unique Features in Adobe Camera Raw 17 That Are Not Even in Lightroom.

According to Colin Smith from Photoshop Cafe, the latest update for Adobe Camera Raw, version 17.0, includes some impressive new features that significantly improve the process of editing raw images.

  • One standout feature is the enhanced AI Noise Reduction. The update applies noise reduction to the original raw file, meaning it doesn't create an extra file like it used to. You can find this feature under the Detail panel and adjust the amount of noise reduction you want to apply. This is especially useful for high ISO images, effectively reducing noise while preserving image details. It's also compatible with a wider range of raw formats now, including iPhone ProRAW and Google Pixel raw files.
  • The new Adobe Adaptive profile is a game-changer, particularly for HDR images. This profile enhances HDR photos right from the start, giving you a great foundation for further editing.
  • The Generative Expand feature allows for intelligent image expansion. This is particularly handy when straightening images, especially those requiring content generation beyond the original frame. However, the feature's effectiveness on larger images, like panoramas, is currently limited due to resolution constraints. It's also not quite ready for high-resolution output or printing.
  • The Generative Remove tool has also been improved. This tool makes it easy to remove unwanted objects from your images, offering circle select and scribble select options for precise object identification. After removing the object, you can choose from three variations of the removal result. While it works well for smaller objects, removing larger elements can result in noticeable resolution mismatches.
